Prague's museums are cheaper than their western European equivalents and considerably less crowded than its bridges, which makes them the obvious move on a wet afternoon.

The National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square reopened after a long reconstruction and is the anchor: natural history, Czech history, and a building that is itself the exhibit. The National Gallery is not one place but several, spread across the city, which is the detail most people miss when they buy a ticket.

Two practical warnings we will keep repeating. Check the closing day — most of the larger houses close one day a week, and it is not the same day everywhere. And check what is actually open: Prague's institutions run long renovation programmes, and a closed wing is rarely obvious from the ticket page.
