Prague's pattern is unusually clear: the streets, the bridges and the squares are free. What you pay for is going inside, and going up. That single rule decides most of a visitor's budget here, and it means a first day in Prague can cost nothing at all.
Prague CastleHradčany · tram 22 to Pražský hradNot one ticket but several circuits covering different buildings. The grounds and courtyards can be walked free; the cathedral interior, the old palace, the basilica and Golden Lane are what the circuits buy. Decide which circuit you want before you reach the counter.

The Astronomical ClockOld Town SquareThe twin spires above the square. Entry is free but restricted to limited hours, and it is closed to visitors during services — check before crossing the square for it.

Petřín Lookout TowerPetřín hillA lookout tower reached by funicular (a normal transport ticket covers it) or on foot. The tower itself is ticketed. The rose garden below is free and usually near-empty.

The bridge and the clock are empty early and dense by late morning, so anything photographic belongs at the start of the day. The centre is small — Old Town to the castle is a walk, not a journey. And the castle is a hill: go up by tram or funicular and walk down, never the reverse.
