The one modern building on the Vltava embankment that visitors go looking for — free from the pavement, open at the top.
What it costs
Free from the street, which is where the photograph is taken from anyway.
The rooftop bar and restaurant are open to the public, and going up is the usual reason to go inside. The rest of the building is offices and a hotel.
When to go
Any time for the exterior. The rooftop is at its best in the late afternoon, looking upriver towards the castle.
Getting there
Trams to Jiráskovo náměstí, or metro B to Karlovo náměstí and walk to the river. It is a pleasant fifteen minutes along the embankment from the National Theatre.
If you only have an hour
Photograph it from the far side of Jiráskovo náměstí, where the two towers separate properly. Then walk north along the embankment towards the National Theatre — that stretch of riverside is one of the better short walks in the city and almost nobody on the bridge is doing it.
What people get wrong
Completed in 1996 by Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry, on a plot left empty by bombing in 1945. It was widely disliked when it went up. It is now on the hundred-crown commemorative coin.
